Equal Funding Now

With your help, equal funding is in reach.

Charter Champions Is Working to Create Equitable Funding
for Rochester’s Students

This year, Charter Champions has undertaken an initiative to work together with parents and teachers like you to correct the longstanding funding disparities for Rochester students and students across the state. Current funding policies assert that one public school should receive less funding than another, simply because they are a charter school.

Parents choose charter schools because they know their children will be better equipped for college and life and district schools have long lost their trust. Charter schools outperform public schools academically, especially for Black and brown children. But current funding policies punish these parents and students for choosing a better education.

This drastic difference impacts the lives of charter students and teachers every day.

The funding gap between charter and district schools is GROWING. As the Rochester City School District receives more funding, our charter schools are receiving less. In 2010, there was only a $2000 difference between charter and district schools, but district schools’ funding has steadily increased by thousands as charter school budgets are slowly whittled down.

In 2024, Rochester charter schools receive fewer funds per child than they received in 2010 while RCSD schools receive almost 50% more in funds since 2010.

We can change this with your help.

Charter Champions is currently working with top lobbyists in New York State to create equitable funding for students attending charter schools.

This fall, we are launching a campaign with parents, teachers--people like you-- to create this. To find out what your next steps are to secure equitable funding, please be sure to subscribe by clicking this button and entering your info.
