A STUDENT-CENTRIC EDUCATION;
A TEACHER-CENTRIC VIEW
OF CHANGE
At Charter Champions, we know that the surest path for improving education equity in Rochester, is to put the focus on meeting the needs of teachers. When a teacher’s needs are met, from compensation to specialized training for urban environments, our students are guaranteed stability and an education tailored to reach them.
Our objectives are divided into two main groups: one which focuses on the ways charter schools recruit, retain, and reward teachers and support staff, and the second focuses on creating an independent teacher network and professional recognition.
School is short staffed. Other teachers are forced to stretch themselves thin to take on the additional labor. Overtired, more teachers choose to leave the profession. In a shrinking employment pool, the charter school administrator struggles to locate a qualified teacher.

CRISIS ARRIVES
Life happens. Whether within a teacher’s 1st year with the charter school, or 3rd, or 5th, the teacher or a family member experiences crisis. Often, the teacher pays more out of pocket than they were prepared for. They approach a crossroad where they must choose between a job they love, and their health or their family’s health.

BUILDING A BETTER
TEACHER PIPELINE
Across America, charter schools are facing the same obstacles: getting teachers into classrooms. While this is true across public, charter, and private sectors of education, the shortage is felt most critically in charter schools.
Here at Charter Champions of Rochester, we’re innovating a better teacher pipeline using both short and long term strategies that will not only positively impact local teachers, charter schools, and students, but can be used as a model to address the teaching crisis felt nationwide.
We’re building a full complement of programs to re-envision and re-make the way teachers enter the profession that can be modeled across the country. We’re launching programs that equip teachers with the tools they need to educate Rochester’s most disadvantaged communities, and we’re delivering strategies that make charter schools more attractive to teachers and support staff.
Our approaches are rooted in academic expertise, formed by real experience in the classroom and in the administration of charter schools, and formed by real success.
Charter Champions is confident that once you review our programs and strategies, you’ll come to agree there’s no better time to build a better teacher pipeline together.
